The author paints vivid portraits of resilience, vulnerability, and the transformative power of presence, while the additional reflections add a layer of seasoned insight that elevates the narrative." ~ Chris M. "Influential quotes are woven seamlessly into the text, the manuscript not only celebrates the courage of both therapist and client but also challenges the mental health field to rethink its approach to training and support. It’s a hauntingly beautiful testament to the messy, humbling, and ultimately profound act of showing up. This collection is made for people that are moved by the human experience." ~ Christine M.

Early in my career I began collecting vignettes of clients who were impactful on my development both as a human being and clinician. I’m grateful to have been able to hold a space for these stories long enough for their initial angst and resentment to be forged into something more productive. I’m amazed by the courage and insight I had as a fledgling therapist. Moreover, I had the awareness to begin documenting these stories relatively soon after their initial events. Had I not done so, much of the stories’ value and raw emotionality would have been lost to a fading memory. We should never underestimate the value of storytelling. The original drafts of these stories included some sort of initial reactive reflection. However, it wasn’t until 2021 that they received a proper review. In some cases it had been six or seven years since I’d worked with these clients. This presented a unique opportunity. I am both part of the story being told, the reviewing auditor, and the years-removed observer. This created a beautiful opportunity to witness a snapshot of where and how my mind and world co-existed during the actual events, as well as how they’ve changed in the intervening years. For these reasons I’ve tried to preserve the stories (written in italic font) in their original form, editing only to maintain continuity of the initially intended first person perspective. The 2021 reflections have been lightly edited for syntax, grammar, and removal of external hyperlinks or references.
